In each heat the acts performed cover versions: in the first four heats the acts performed one song; in heats 5 and 6 the acts performed two songs. In the first two heats, 12 acts competed and the top 5 acts automatically qualified for the third heat. In the third heat, the top 5 acts automatically qualified for the fourth heat. In the fourth heat, the top 3 acts automatically qualified for the fifth heat. In the fifth heat, the top 2 acts automatically qualified for the sixth heat. After the first five heats a second vote was held to allow one more act to qualify for the next heat as a wildcard. In the sixth heat, the top 2 acts qualified for the final.

Due to a mistake in calculating the results, Damir Kedžo was announced as a qualifier in the first heat instead of Jelena Vanjek. This was corrected after the show.
